Recap 1

Note: For simplicity, i use a normal roman calendar, and the characters all leave their respective places in early january. It is the 20th year of Lord Phantar's rule.

ORC FORT 1/9

Kidnapped by orcs (see individual backstories). Party awakens in dungeon, missing all valuables, including Lashtal's lute and Venetto's dog. Party retains weapon's and travelling equipment. Orcs jeer through a grating in the ceiling: "You fight your way through, mebbe we let you live!" A portcullis is raised and a tortured, starved bear charges in. Leento cannot reason with it, it is too abused. Party kills it, leaves the cell.

A door to the east has a horrible smell, so party chooses to go south. The corridor has, high above, an orc with a bow on a ledge, so party ducks down a side corridor to avoid getting shot at. The side corridor is trapped: a portion of the wall come crashing out in a crushing attempt. The party manages to dodge the wall, and Arkospixi disables the trap. The side corridor returns to the main corridor. Chyekk uses his shield to protect the rest of the party from the orc as the run south into the next room.

The next room contains a giant snake. Venetto has his crossbow drawn and gets off a shot, but Lashtal is bitten. Her body resists the snake's deadly venom, but she is knocked unconscious. The rest of the party manage to slay the snake. Party exits the snake's room, turns south, and would have fallen into a pit trap if Chyekk's dwarven senses hadn't detected it. Party crosses the pit one by one and finds the corridor is blocked by rubble. With much work, the group manages to clear a hole through the top of the rubble, revealing a dusty room. The room was a library, probably a mage's, but had been untouched for years. Party finds a potion of healing, and revives Lashtal. Lashtal takes a few books, mostly at random. Raistlin finds a spell of Find Familiar. Arkospixi grabs an ornate bone scroll case. The party leaves the library and go north, finding a sunken room filled with filthy water and garbage. The water is filled with giant rats. Venetto removes his armor and ties it to a rope. He ties the other end of the rope to himself and enters the filthy water, attempting to swim to the doorway on the other side, dragging his armor. The rats attack. Orcs, watching through a grating on the ceiling, jeer and throw refuse. Venetto is hurt badly by the rats and unable to move because of the armor, and is forced to retreat under the cover of Chyekk and Arkospixi's missles, and Raistlin's magic. Two orcs open the door and attack with bows, but the party kills one and the other retreats.

The party is badly injured and unsure of what to do, but after hearing silence for a long time they kill the rats and attempt to swim to the door again. They reach the door, climb the stairs, and find that the orcs have been slain by Lord Phantar's Knights. The party's valuables are nowhere to be seen.

The party is escorted to Betaya by Phantar's Knights. Having no money, they are unsure what to do, but Arkospixi knows a barkeep who owes her a few favors, and she brings the party to his tavern. While discussing their options at the tavern, the party is approached by a man named Spinner. He offers the party a fair amount of money if they will escort him to a cavern. He is searching for an artifact and believes it is in the cavern. The party agrees.

CERVANTE'S CAVE 1/11

The cavern is in a swamp. On the way to the swamp, the party is attacked by a horde of zombies and ghouls. Later the party finds the entrance to the cavern, hidden under a flat stone. Lifting the stone, Venetto and Chyekk are attacked by giant centipedes. The weak poison of the centipedes causes weakness but no permanent injury.

The party enters the cavern, discoveres 3 large humanoid skeletons. The bones are charred and there are vials of glass nearby. While investigating the entrance way, the party is attacked by a patrol of skeletons. The party explores the caverns, encountering many patrols of skeletons and zombies. The group is also attacked by giant rats.

Then a cavern tunnel opens into a large room, in which a giant black dragon rested upon a huge mound of treasure. The dragon, in archaic common, said, "Oh good, I am so very tired of rats." and breathed acid on the party. The party runs, avoiding some of the attack. Raistlin and Leento think that something is not quite right, and turn back to challenge the dragon. As they suspected, the dragon flickers out of existence. It was an illusion. Behind the dragon illusion Arkospixi discovers a secret door.

The party enters and follows a corridor, where, written on the wall it says, again in an archaic common, "Persistant ye are. Eager for death?". Undaunted, the party continues and discovers an strange steam driven device. It is very technically impressive, very high tech compared to what is used in Chumera. It functions like an elevator, and lowers the party deeper into the caverns. The party follows a tunnel and is attacked by more giant centipedes.

They then enter a room with a giant stone statue, carved like a Yokellian Legionarre. Upon entering the room, the statue becomes animated and attacks. Leento summons roots and vines from deep beneath the earth attempting to entangle the opponent but traps his party as well. With much help from Raistlin's magic, the party eventually defeat the statue, but they are badly injured.

In the next room, the party finds a treasure chest, but opening it reveals that it is only full of copper. This room is a dead-end, and the party investigates it carefully, but finds nothing. They then decide to look under the chest. When the chest is lifted, a loud rumbling is heard and the room shakes. After a minute, the noise subsides, and nothing seems different. The party travels north to leave, but they do not find the room with the statue. Instead they are attacked by a group of skeletons, in a completely different room. Somehow the party was moved.

The party splits up, trying to determine where they are. After fighting more skeletons and zombies, the group reunites. They encounter a room with two doors, filled with gas. They almost enter another room, but see it is occupied by an army of skeletons. Some of the skeletons charge after the party. The group returns to the gas filled room and Lashtal tries to hold the door closed while the rest of the party escapes through the second door. The skeletons break through, and the party fights them off two by two as they come through the door. The party is slowly pushed further down the corridor, and they encounter zombies in the other direction. After a brutal fight, the party wins.

Party chooses to not return to the room full of skeletons. They continue west, and find a room with six holes in the wall. Eventually they determine that the holes were meant to hold a ladder or other stair-structure, and they find a secret door above them. Chyekk opens the door, crawls through, and is immediately paralyzed by ghouls. Before being torn to bits, he is rescued by a daring jump by Venetto. The ghouls are killed. Further along, the party discovers a ladder leading to a trapdoor in the ceiling. They also hears a buzzing sound, like wasps, to the south. They choose to avoid the buzzing and climb the ladder.

Their way is blocked by something heavy on the trapdoor, but they manage to force it open. The heavy item was a coffin, and pushing it knocked it over, revealing a skeleton dressed in red and blue scale mail, decorated by small studded saphire skulls on each shoulder. Spinner takes and wears the armor. Meanwhile Chyekk is attacked by an oozing creature originally assumed to be a boulder. The party exit the room through an eastern door after Arkospixi picked its lock, and discover that they are back on the first level of the cavern, in the eastern tunnels. The party encounter rust monsters to the north, and fight skeletons in a water filled passageway to the south. The water becomes deeper and deeper in the southern corridor, and the party chooses to not continue in that direction.

They return to the elevator and descend again, this time discovering a lever in the statue room that returns the room with the copper coins to its original position. Re-entering the copper coin room, the party determine that the eastern wall is an illusion.

Behind the illusionary wall is a large pool of water. Deep below in the pool, treasure chests can be seen, but they are too deep to be safely accessed. The party re-activate the moving room mechanism by lifting the copper coin chest again, and, as the room moves, the water in the fountain drains. Some of the party descends into the fountain, and, after Arkospixi checks the chests for booby traps, they are opened. The party finds a magical cloak, a magical sword, several scrolls and potions (mostly water damaged), and many thousands of electrum coins, stamped with unknown markings. Spinner also discovers what he had been looking for: A sword hilt, a note from Cervantes gloating over the curse he placed on the sword hilt, and a sea map possibly noting places that Cervantes hid the other pieces of the sword. Lasthal was only given a brief glance at the map and note, however, before Spinner thanked the party for their help, offered to meet them again if they ever were in the city of Kilmore (a city the party had never heard of) and then disappeared.

The party, with their new treasure, returned to the first level of the cavern, and explored the southern tunnels. There they discovered a huge chasm, with a plaque embedded in a boulder reading "On this day Mad Oberon, in his distrust of our brothers from below, has ordered this bridge to be removed. I have complied." Returning north, the party encountered a large, green humanoid with rubbery skin and gangly limbs. Venetto approached the creature, and with a massive blow, destroyed it. And so it was that the party's overconfidence in their ability to defeat trolls was born, an overconfidence that Leento would pay dearly for in Malta Forest.

Leaving the cave, the party is greeted by a strange man whose face is hidden in robes. The man thanks the party for ending the curse of the swamp, on behalf of 'all of us'. He leaves them a small chest containing additional treasure.

RETURN TO BETAYA. 1/11 - 1/19

Attempt to foil a child slavery ring does not go quite as well as hoped, and some party members spend the night in jail.

HUNT FOR THE LUTE 1/20/20 - 2/22/20

The party decides to attempt to retrieve Lasthal's lute and Venetto's dog. The party returns to the orc fort where they were captured to discover that Lord Phantar's Knights have dismantled and burned it, leaving little evidence. However, Venetto discovers a trail leading east along the Logsend River and the party follows it. Deviating slightly from the trail to stop in Hetasi and Yokel, the party eventually are lead to Endripor Woods. One night their campfire is doused leaving the party vulnerable to an attack from winged half-men, half-bats. The party's lack of a battle formation that protects their weaker members was particularly dangerous for Raistlin who was badly injured. The werebats are driven off after one is killed.

The next morning the party finds themselves surrounded by elves. The three leaders of the elves introduce themselves as Fandric, Dana, and Lowric, and they are at first suspicious of Lashtal and Arkospixi until they learn that neither are allied with Queen Morwyn of Nara Forest. In fact, Lashtal, being half-elf, is considered a mongrel, and Arkospixi is apparently unique or rare in the land. The elves refer to her as majesty, but are baffled by her inability to comprehend the elvish tongue. The elves are soldiers of Eldric, the former member of the Cha Warriors who is now waging a rebellion against Queen Morwyn. Hearing of the werebat attack the elves recommend killing the injured party members, especially Raistlin, because they are now infected with lycanthrope and will soon turn into werebats. The party refuses and sets about finding belladona to cure them. Belladona is found thanks to Leento's plant lore, but Raistlin is killed by the poison. The party returns to Hetasi and Lashtal entreats the local cleric, a family friend, to resurrect Raistlin and defer the cost. Raistlin is resurrected, but very shaken by the experience. He vows to give up his study of magic and become a servant of Tyr. The rest of the party decide to return to the orc trail.

ATTACK ON THE ORC FORT. 3/2/20 - 3/9/20

Returning to Endripor Woods the party again encounter Fandric, Dana, and Lowric, and are led to the orc fort. The elves are happy to have the orcs removed from their woods, but advise that instead of a direct assault, the party should assassinate their leader. They are led to the fort and given a map of its layout. The party sneaks into the fort and enters the leader's hut to discover that the leader is not an orc chieftain, but a dark elf with long white hair.

The elf raises an eyebrow, says, "Hmmm, interesting" and walks into the back room, while a strange furry creature with bat-like wings, a long tail, and a single, venom-dripping eyeball rises from a corner and floats towards the party. After defeating the eyewing, the party enter the back room, and are met by the elf and a giant creature made out of grey spongy material with a large square featureless head. The elf introduces himself as Malekith and asks why the group has come. Lashtal demands her lute. "Do you mean this?" Malekith asks, digging it out of a chest full of trinkets. "I've examined this. There is nothing special about it. You came all the way here for this? Very interesting." Venetto demands his dog, and learns that it was most likely eaten by orcs soon after being captured. Malekith then suggests that since the party now has what they came for that they should leave, but the party persists in asking questions and Malekith and his golem attack. The group finds that they are almost powerless against Malekith and his magicks, but then, without explanation, Malekith and his golem leave, setting the hut on fire as they go.

The orcs, alerted by the fire, begin coming out of their barracks, towards the party. Soon the party is facing an entire army of orcs. Some party members attempt to escape down a mine tunnel, but, finding orcs in the tunnel as well, return to the fort. Lashtal and Arkospixi manage to climb their escape rope and get away from the main horde of orcs, but Lashtal, desperate for help, blows an orc guard's horn, summoning more orcs riding dire wolves. Soon all the party members are defeated.

The party awaken some time later in the company of Eldric's elves. The elves explain that they took a risk and managed to charge in and scatter a group of orcs that were bringing the party somewhere. The orcs managed to steal all of the party's possessions, however, and Chyekk was severely burned while Leento's arm was cut off. Weakened and penniless, the party returned to Hetasi to recover. After several weeks of rest, the party, with Raistlin, now a cleric, decided to travel to Malta Wood, having heard rumors of trolls in the area.
