Lieralyn and Klute come back from their adventure with Leento. Klute's peryton is gone, but he has replaced it with a dinosaur named Bessie.
The group fights lots of trolls who keep trying to steal the mirror. They eventually make it to the tower. Snow fights a monk who says the trolls are his disciples. The monk leaves. Oliver and Brecaryn figure out that two levers in the tower are actually brakes. If they can find the missing gear, they can get the tower to move.
At the temple of Bast, they find out from Balingal's ghost that Dar as-Sabtah is the Oblivion King's real name. He only knows that the lich's phylactery is kept near him. He advises them to use the Oblivion King's pride and inability to find anyone he considers an equal against him.
They go to Dar as-Sabtah's old house to find the gear. Vain runs off and smashes a bunch of white Vain look-alikes. Based on what she read in as-Sabtah's journal, Brecaryn believes it was a charred bit of himself that Vain took from a box in the house. as-Sabtah was very interested in Vain and it looks like he tried to make more like him.
They find the gear and get the clock moving. Underneath are fused, screaming faces of all the girls who got sacrificed. Josy consecrates the area and makes the screaming stop.
Puff gets her eggs back. Brecaryn says she may call on her again.
Lieralyn makes a bargain with Snow to behave less selfishly. In exchange, Snow convinces Brecaryn to put the clock tower into the mirror.
The trolls contact Snow through the mask the monk left. They are keeping watch on a group of Zhentils for her.
In the morning, they meet up with the trolls and go to talk to the Zhentils. Before they can do this, the Oblivion King and Gloiterwome show up with alot of undead.
Brecaryn calls Puff. Snow calls Narasimha and directs the trolls to fight the undead.
Vain kills Gloiterwome's body. He grins at Brecaryn. She doesn't like it so much.
Oliver and Snow go down.
Alana and Lieralyn are attacked by vampires. Some of their life force is drained before Josy can help. Alana has a fun hallucination while enthralled.
Zhentils show up and help fight the undead.
Josy does amazing things, shocking even the Oblivion King.
He runs away.
