Recap 14 Supplemental: More Monster-Generating Skulls

December 8, 2007

The night after defeating the orcs, Flerm was approached by drow during his watch. A group led by Malakith had been following them for some time now. They also wanted the red bull stopped and were offering to help the Crew. The journey from Bryn Sturgis to Sabael would take more than a day and travelling at night was out of the question. The drow had a magick tent that would allow the party to camp at night undisturbed. The drow could not be trusted, but the Crew needed their help so it was agreed that they would accept this offer but would stay on our guard against any treachery. Snow had met Malakith before and the result of that meeting had not been a pleasant for her and her friends.

First things first. The rest of the orcs needed to be dealt with. Malouf and Alana stayed behind in case the drow decided to cause the villagers any trouble while the rest of the party headed for the caves. Early on the elves in the party noticed they were being followed. Giant skunks. Snow went to try to discourage them but they were interested in collecting shiny objects and would not be deterred. She decided they weren't a threat and rejoined the party.

At the orc cave, 3 ogres could be seen guarding the entrance. Josy circled the hill and reported that there was a second, unguarded cave entrance in the back. Brecaryn's owl Nightshade lured the skunks towards the hill to distract the ogres while the rest of the group climbed up the back. They were able to dispatch the remaining orcs and wargs. Some goblins had been held prisoner. They didn't look like they were able to cause any trouble so we set them free. The only orcs left were the old and the young.

Malouf rejoined the group in the cave. Flerm signaled the drow and arranged to meet the next morning. The Motley Crew returned to the village and gave the orcs' electrum to the villagers.

While travelling with the drow, Brecaryn discovered putting one of the green cylinders they got from the villagers into the spring sword caused it to crackle with electricity. Hopefully it would now be something useful.

When they arrived in Sabael, they supplied ourselves with cold weather gear and met some members of Malouf's tribe, one of whom Malouf convinced to join the party. The next day the group headed towards Mangar's Woods in search of Willy the Magnificent, rumored to be Mangar's son.

When they found Willy, he was not happy to see them and demanded they leave the woods. The group managed to convince him they were friends and working for Beeblebrox. He showed them the way to Mangar's training grounds.

In the training grounds, the Crew fought animated statues and avoided wights. All of this was too much for Malouf's friend and he decided to go back to his tribe.

One of the rooms contained a skull that kept generating monsters. Luckily, Snow had encountered a similar monster-generating mechanism previously and knew the skull itself was the key. It took a combined effort to destroy it, but once done, no more monsters appeared.

A metal dwarf blacksmith became animated and repaired a broken spear found near a row of soldier statues. Replacing the spear in the warrior's hand caused a secret passage to open.
